June 15, 1899: Launch of Art Nouveau Movement

On this day in 1899, the Art Nouveau movement reached its peak with the opening of the first international exhibition dedicated to this new artistic style in Paris. The exhibition showcased the flowing, organic lines and nature-inspired designs that would define this revolutionary approach to decorative arts, architecture, and design.

The movement represented a decisive break from historical revivalism, embracing asymmetry and the dynamic curves inspired by natural forms. Its influence continues to be felt in contemporary design more than a century later.
